British Horse Society exams are internationally recognised qualifications. The training enables you to ride a variety of horses from experienced schoolmasters to younger horses that need training themselves. BHS training also provides you with the information needed to care for your horse in the correct manner. There are a number of B.H.S examinations and qualifications you can achieve, depending upon whether you have professional or recreational aspirations.
The following courses are taught in a standard format:-
Syllabus overview BHS Stage 1 - Horse Knowledge and Care basic principles looking after a well-mannered horse in the stable and at grass - Riding Basic flat work incorporating jump position. Riding and Road safety Certificate Essential for anyone who needs to ride on the road. BHS Stage 2 - Horse Knowledge and Care Requires prior completion of both BHS Stage 1 and the Riding and Road Safety Certificate. - Riding Flat work and jumping a 2’6” course incorporating a small grid of fences Horse Owners Certificate levels 1 to 4 The essential knowledge required for all those with full responsibility for the upkeep of their horses or who have placed them in livery. Progressive Riding Test These offer many the opportunity to obtain useful skills and experience without the need to undertake the full BHS examinations.

Food and Water Management |
Food and water are essential for the life and well being of your horse. Correct feeding is an art that should be mastered by every horse owner. |

Mounting and Dismounting |
Overlooked by many, the ability to mount and dismount with agility is essential to prevent injury to yourself and your horse. |

Clothing and Bandaging |
This includes the various array of rugs and bandages that may be required during a horses lifetime. Correct use of bandaging is particularly important to prevent injury. |

Shoeing |
The vast majority of lameness problems originate in the feet. Correct shoeing and hoof care is essential to a healthy, happy horse. |

Hair care for Horses |
Mane pulling, plaiting, trimming and clipping so your horse is healthy and looking its best. |
